Warming reduces soil CO2 emissions but enhances soil N2O emissions: A long-term soil transplantation experiment

Download Whitepaper

Long-term  warming and land-use changes impact soil CO2 and N2O emissions differently, with significant implications for  climate change mitigation. This 8-year soil transplant experiment in  northeastern China found that warming reduced soil CO2 emissions but increased  N2O  emissions, especially in grasslands, underscoring the need to consider the  balance between soil carbon sequestration and N2O emissions in climate strategies.
